64 Billion and Counting

64 Billion and Counting is an ongoing series of works exploring our complex, everyday relationship with the food that we eat.

Driven by the stark reality that 64 billion chickens are consumed globally each year, the project examines our demand for cheap food and the hidden costs that come with it. The individual pieces question the far-reaching impacts of mass production—on the environment, the animals, the quality of what we eat, and ultimately, on ourselves.

WYE is a small cross stitch of a chicken skeleton displaying an intricate structure of bones and sinews.

The piece directly addresses the environmental impact of mass poultry farming upon our complex river systems where local run off is actively poisoning the water.

Do Not Wash Before Eating is an ongoing collaborative poetry project in which people are invited to create poetry inspired by the cooking instructions found on fresh supermarket chicken packaging.
