64 Billion and Counting is an ongoing series of works exploring our complex, everyday relationship with the food that we eat.
Driven by the stark reality that 64 billion chickens are consumed globally each year, the project examines our demand for cheap food and the hidden costs that come with it. The individual pieces question the far-reaching impacts of mass production—on the environment, the animals, the quality of what we eat, and ultimately, on ourselves.
The cleaned and bleached bones of supermarket chickens, enclosed and displayed within a beautifully lit Perspex vitrine.
WYE? is a small cross stitch of a chicken skeleton and displays an intricate structure of bones and sinews.
It makes specific reference to the effect of mass production upon our complex river systems, which in some areas are slowly being poisoned by the runoff from local the chicken farms.
